The band's 10 piece ensemble have been very busy over the recent weeks having had the pleasure in playing for the wedding of Gaye & Chris Tate in the wonderful setting of Norwood Park in Southwell, North Nottingham. The highlight was surely having the bride conduct the band in her favourite piece Concierto de Aranjuez or as most people no it as “Concerto d’ Orange Juice…” taken famously from the film “Brassed Off” Unfortunately Tara Fitzgerald couldn’t be with us, but no matter we witnessed great flugel playing from Pam Davis. As the bride say’s “...it was quite a dream come true, can't thank the band enough as it made a seriously special day even more special so please pass on a heartfelt thank you to everyone....
Following that a trip, we were off to one our favourite locations, thanks to Mrs Nancy Bird for the privilege of playing the in the wonderful gardens of Quarndon Hall where the ensemble entertained the crowds at the annual Quarndon Summer Fete, with the usual array of summer games. It’s reported that Sam, our drummer won the catch a rat down the drainpipe and Chairman, Graham `johnson won the egg & spoon race– but maybe that’s just wishful thinking!!!
The very same evening saw most of the band converge on Rob & Sandra’s house and gardens in the metropolis of Clay Cross, for a “Grand Spectacular Centenary Celebration of 100 years of Scouting. About 160 Scouting dignitaries from the Derbyshire area About 20 of the band played a few numbers under the baton of visiting friend of the band, Andy Culshaw. Everyone enjoyed themselves into the night with disco. Good fun was had by all, especially Dave Armshaw who kept us all entertained as only he can !
A week later saw the ensemble playing in the much-publicised BBC Spring Watch event in Osmaston Park in Derby. Although a little trepidation with the weather conditions it all held off and the ensemble played two forty five minute sessions entertaining a large crowd, along with many other groups including Birds of Prey displays and various dance groups.
